Rescue Base Seattle

MicroGeneration Gallery

Micro Generation CG Gallery 7 Rescue Base Seattle

MicroGeneration is an attempt by fans to create cool new "garage toys" and designs for sci-fi cyborg 10 centimeter-tall figures, robots and vehicles in the retro-futuristic style of the seventies resembling a certain other series I won't name by some very interesting coincidence...

MicroGeneration 4

While Sashida-san hasn't "officially" commenced MicroGeneration 4 yet, a couple of us members are already thinking of ideas. "The End" has a number of things in the works on his site, and I came up with this idea for a Shinto shrine maiden-based figure:

Miko Command

I recently completed RedSnake's (Akahebi-san)"Ebiroyear" (Shrimproyear?) kit...

Ebiroyear articulated arm version

I made one change to the kit, out of necessity. There was an air bubble flaw in the left original arm, that ruined that part, and I lacked the skills to rebuild it very easily. I salvaged the forearm, however, and ended up replacing the original non-jointed arm design of the kit (shaped like a piece of macaroni with no elbow) with some spare arm parts I had from a broken figure. The end result resembles Sashida-san's and Matsumoto-san's original pictures, though, and I was able to reincoporate the forearms from the oriinal kit, so I am happy with the end result. While the arms look posable, actually they are glued into that pose. The metal rivet joints were painted over with yellow paint in the process, so I restored their appearance by repainting them silver.

This is my first rendered test of the completed Nurse Rescue model, with one of Kachack's images and my original sketch (barely visible) in the background.

Seb's interpretation of Ko-mand-chan

This is "Seb"-san's interpretation of the "Ko-mand" figure I suggested during Phase 2 (see below). Cool! I believe Sashida-san did the colors, but maybe that was also "Seb's" work, too. "Seb" most recently is collaborating with "The End" to create the "Rescue Ditan" figure (also below). "The End" also started work earlier on a Rescue Nurse prototype figure, but later scrapped it to work on the Stealth Command instead (see below).

Rescue Base Seattle meets MicroGeneration!

Matsumoto, Mr. and Mrs. Sashida

That's right, Rescue M256 "MicroBry" Wilkinson, representative of Rescue Base Seattle, travelled to Japan to meet the wonderful folks associated with the MicroGeneration project. Pictured here is Reiji "no relation" Matsumoto, and Mr. and Mrs. Sashida. Matsumoto-san is the creator of Micro World and the leader of the MicroGeneration Computer Graphics team (he also works for Sony Computer Entertainment), and Sashida-san is the owner and creator of Oriental Technology and the MicroGeneration project. I took this picture at Sashida-san's "Secret Base", where he keeps his dazzling collection that can be seen in part on his Microman Maniacs page, where we exchanged all sorts of stories and info about Micros. Way cool!

MicroGeneration at Wonder Festival Winter '99

This is the table for MicroGeneration at WonderFest in February 1999 at "Tokyo Big Sight". This year the table was close to the Gamera 3 exhibition. Interestingly, Gamera's mecha designer created the Acroyears for the new 1999 Microman series. In the foreground is a beautiful MicroGen poster/calendar that was created by Matsumoto with backgrounds by his wife. I'll be framing mine ASAP...! In front of it are postcards of MicroGeneration CG art, including my Rescue Nurse you saw above.

Robo_Man by Zeek-san

The first thing you take notice of at the table is "Zeek"-san's "Robo_Man" full scratchbuild kit he is designing. This thing is huge, and getting much closer to completion than when I last saw it pictured. Way to go, "Zeek"-san!

Waruroyear Queen display

Next thing you see is the stunning Waruroyear Queen figure display. The kit can be assembled into your choice of the forms shown in the display. Unfortunately, her mold is broken now and more cannot be made until it is repaired. Before assembly, the kit looks like this after removing the "flash" from the parts and tree. Very fine modelwork, done by "Model Kingdom" with Sashida-san. The painted kit I believe was detailed by "Akahebi"-san (RedSnake), who was a very charming man who gave me directions on how to paint both her and his incredible "Ebiroyear" (Shrimproyear) kit.

Waruroyear, Ebiroyear, Ikaroyear

In front of Robo_Man is the classic three kits from Phase 1: Yodachin's Waruroyear, Akahebi's Ebiroyear (shrimp), and Model Kingdom's Ikaroyear (squid). The unnassembled Ebiroyear looks like this.

Rescue Ditan

Completely new for this show, but unfinished is "Seb" and "The End's" incredible magnetic "Rescue Ditan". Unlike previous kits, "The End's" newest works are actually articulated, with movable elbows, knees, and so on. He is also working on a posable version of his "Stealth Command" figure:

Stealth Lady Command

While Stealth was available at the last show, this newer one, still in development, is amazingly fully jointed. He is also working on a capsule for her based on the gargoyle-like stone orcs that could be found on the old imperial castle. Not pictured is also an Izam figure that "The End" made a posable left arm for by modifying a GI Joe arm.

M11P

Matusmoto-san also used a computer sculpting tool to create a replica of the prototype M11x series head (see my Takara prototypes page for an example). Way cool! I'll be getting the one he gave me chromed ASAP...!

Kachatsuk's CG image of Rescue Nurse

Kachack-san, a regular contributor of fantastic Micro-inspired images to the Micro Generation pages, sent me this beautiful full-color interpretation of my sketches of the Rescue Nurse figure, which were inspired by an idea by Sashida-san, the owner of the Oriental Technology page and Micro Generation. Arigatou gozaimasu, Kachatsuk-san!

Nurse Rescue sketches

My first rough sketches for an original female Rescue series figure for Micro Generation Phase 2.

Micro Ko-mmand

Another somewhat humorous design for a Micro-Kindergartener I submitted to Oriental Technology's Micro Generation Phase 2 project.
