What's New

December 20th, 2000 "SITE COMPLETION":

Due to GeoCities combining with Yahoo, a significant amount of space was taken away from Rescue Base. As a result, the site became larger than its alloted space (I was originally paying for an extra 15 megs on top of Geo's 5 free ones, but when they combined, it changed to 15 free megs and RBS was about 17 megs in size!). As a result, I've had to cut a few things out and move other pages to a new location... and stop further growth of this site at this location.

So, first of all I finally updated all the text content of these pages to reflect the numerous new things that have occured in the world of Microman since my last update, and changed the Microman 99 page to a retrospective of the early rebirth of the series (originally this was the first page in the US to cover all these events as they occured).

Second of all, as members of the Micropola Micronauts/Microman Mailing list are aware, I added a "Secret Update" page on another location. The link to this will be on the title page now in plain sight.

And lastly, I started the Rocket Tubes page, where I am trying to compile a list of all related sites plus add a few resources and fun things of my own and have a few surprises in store for there. I reccommend keeping an eye on that page in particular from now on for my further updates (along with the "secret update page" I mentioned...)

So to those of you who have supported this site and enjoyed it, thanks, and keep watching these two new spots.

Because while I've "finished" this page, things are far, far from over yet! ^_^

Best wishes to all!

New news from Japan:

Microman ANIME announced!

Yes it's true, after 15 years of waiting and hoping, I have learned that a Microman animated television series is slated for launch in January of 1999 (the 25th anniversary of Microman), according to the October issue of Comic BomBom Magazine, which premiered the new Microman manga series!

First Word on the 1999 Microman toys!

Apparently BomBom featured a pic of the first new figure design. Here is what the Japanese fans have reported about it:

Beast Wars-style ball-and-joint connectors.

Left hand on first figure has some sort of magnetic attachment. (Perhaps the weapon seen in the manga preview on Gaku Suzuki's Page)

It does NOT have a chrome head...suspicions are that the "chrome head look" is considered too dated for the current market.

According to the manga, it is 8 cm tall, which is less than an inch shorter than the original Microman figures (Hoodman-size???). Speculation is this is to keep production cost down.

Armor appears to be removable.

Also I have learned that the new Microman toys are being handled by Takara's Hobby Division, not its main division, which is currently involved with Beast Wars. Takara's Hobby Division apparently has been in a little bit of a slump, so it is probably hoping to revitalize itself with the Microman series. This is also why little could be learned from Takara's main division about the project.

More will be coming soon when I get my own copy of this groundbreaking new issue of Comic BomBom, near the start of October.

Microman Manga Translation

I have translated the first chapter of the 1978 Microman manga series by Yoshihiro Moritou and will be doing more in the near future. To learn how to get a copy of this, e-mail me for more information. Some samples will appear here soon! The first installment introduces the Micromen, the Acroyear, and a multitude of micro-mecha, all of which are also well-known Micronaut toys!

Microcon 98 Report Begins

September 1st, 1998 updates:

Microman Returns!

Several announcements have been made the last couple of weeks. Here is the full story:

First of all, Kodansha's Comic BomBom Magazine featured an ad in its September issue for the new Microman manga series. Gaku Suzuki has a picture of the ad on his Microman page.

Second, Takara announced at the Eastern Japan Toy Faire its decision to make new Microman toys and reproductions of original Microman toys. It is starting with a full set of reproductions of the very first "barefoot" style Microman figures. Minoru Sashida has pictures of them on this page (top, left photo)!

Also announced were Microman trading cards and jigsaw puzzles. Earlier, rumor came from Cool Japanese Toys that a liscensed Sony Playstation game and anime were in mid-production. Toy sales will commence in December (with blister packs of 1800 yen each), which would put it at an ideal time frame for both an anime series to start as a mid-season replacement (if it doesn't begin in fall), and a potentially good time for a game release.

Two abandoned new Microman designs are seeing life as Japanese Beast Wars toys. One is the Rescue Base-like "Niagra Base", which while very modified, still has numerous 5mm pegs and holes (currently available). The other, the "Tako (octopus) Tank", is impressive-looking and due out in October. Other rejected Microman designs may also find life this way in future months.

Further announcements are expected over the coming months, stay tuned to here for the latest information!

I am currently translating the original Microman manga series (1978) and will be posting info on this effort on the MicroManga Page as it develops. I may have copies of the first chapter available at MicroCon '98, which I plan to have a full report on here in about a week from now or so.
